By expanding an existing building, we created a residential project that reinterprets contemporary living with a high architectural standard
Our aim was to design a structure that engages openly with its surroundings while offering secluded spaces for different living areas.
Function
The extension adds new living areas, including a self-contained residence spread over two levels. The lower floor houses the technical and service areas, while the upper floor is divided into four clearly defined zones.
At the center lies the entrance and communication area, featuring a spiral staircase that connects both levels. From here, three further zones extend: a children’s area, a private retreat for the parents, and the open-plan living area – the heart of the project.
This central living space was deliberately extended in two directions – with a summer terrace facing north and a winter terrace facing south. This design creates fluid transitions between interior and exterior spaces, opening the building to the surrounding landscape.
Facade design
For the facade design, we chose vertical wooden slats that give the building a warm and natural appearance. At the same time, they provide visual privacy and support the intended balance between openness and seclusion.
Harnessing natural light
Three round skylights illuminate key areas inside – the entrance zone, the office, and the living area – enhancing natural light and contributing to a pleasant spatial atmosphere.
The light motif continues outdoors: on the terrace, a circular opening introduces additional daylight and extends the architectural concept into the open space.
A building with multiple functions that still feels like a unified whole. Living, hospitality, and accessibility – seamlessly integrated through architectural clarity.
